The Best Dog Boarding in Las Vegas, Nevada

Are you traveling, getting some renovations done on your home, or otherwise in need of someone to take your dog for a few days or even a few weeks? If so, looking for dog boarding on Rover.com might be your best bet. Rover.com dog boarders are individuals who take dogs into their homes to care for them while their owners are away. Many owners find that this is better for their furry BFFs than boarding facilities, which often require dogs to stay in cages for much of the day or might not have anyone on site overnight.

Questions to Ask About Dog Boarding in Las Vegas

Now that you have seen some dog boarders who might be right for you and your pup, how can you be sure that they’re the right fit? You should ask for a meet-and-greet, which is a time for you to bring your pup over to the house to make sure that you and the sitter both feel comfortable. See how your dog gets along with any pets living at the home. Make sure that you feel the home is safe, and ask the boarder some questions. Here are some things you might want to ask about.

  • Where will my dog sleep? If your dog sleeps in a crate or a dog bed overnight, be sure to bring it when you board him so it will be familiar and comforting. (If you need a new crate, check out our list of the best ones.) If your pup snuggles up with you in your bed or sleeps on the couch, will your sitter allow this?
  • How often are potty breaks? Some dogs are used to being home for up to eight or ten hours, so it’s no problem if potty breaks are infrequent. If yours is used to going out more frequently, particularly if you have a puppy or a senior dog, look for someone who will take him out as needed.
  • How do you handle separation anxiety? Some dogs get upset when their owners leave. Most dog boarders will have some tricks up their sleeves to distract your dog and help him to feel better about being in a strange place.
  • Are you comfortable with my dog’s special needs? Does your dog become aggressive while eating? Does he need injected or oral medication? Maybe he has allergies and the sitter must be careful not to expose him to certain foods. Make sure that you are assured that the caregiver can handle whatever your dog’s needs are.
  • Do you know dog first aid and CPR? While the chances are small that your dog will have a sudden illness or injury, it could happen. Rover.com designates the providers on their site who know canine first aid and CPR, but you can double-check.
  • How often will you send updates? This will depend on your preferences. Some dog owners like several updates per day, while others assume that no news is good news and would rather not be contacted unless there’s a problem. Many are in between. Talk to your dog boarder about what you prefer.
  • What are the check-in and check-out times? Be sure that your chosen caregiver knows when to expect you to come back. If a flight is delayed or you hit traffic, will you incur an extra charge? If you are delayed by a day or more, is the sitter available to continue caring for your dog (with extra payment, of course)?

Choosing a dog sitter can be tough, but with the help of Rover.com, you can feel secure in the person that you choose. Packing up some of the things that your dog loves will help him feel more comfortable at someone else’s house. Check out some of these travel bags for dogs to help you pack up for your furbaby’s own getaway, and be sure to talk to your dog sitter about other ways they can help your pup feel happier while waiting for you to come back.
